An Osprey hunting

Matanzas Inlet

Driving a little ways south of St. Augustine you run into Matanzas Inlet. This location was filled with over a dozen ospreys during my trip. They would circle the skies hunting right near the bridge.

At first I stayed on the bridge and took a few shots. Then I found a way to get on the beach near the bridge and had a much better angle. On multiple occasions I would stand along the beach for hours waiting for an opportunity.

Thankfully, every 5-15 minutes, one would dive into the water hoping to pull out a fish. I saw many swoop down and bail out, others looking at their claws empty handed. Others were successful. All-in-all I probably saw about 20-30 successful catches during the trip.

One crazy occurrence was this one that pulled out a baby hammerhead shark! I can't think of a more 'Florida photo' then this! He was quite a ways a way but still go these two shots.

This was by the far the best time and best location I ever had shooting osprey. If you are in the area be sure to check it out.
